itoya Ginza:

Tokyo’s Flagship Stationery Wonderland

April 6, 2025

Japan is home to some of the best stationery stores that are exciting no matter how many times you visit. There’s endless floors filled with endless products, so it’s best to go in with a game plan. A favorite amongst locals and tourists alike is Itoya with convenient locations around Tokyo. While Tokyo has no shortage of stationery stores, Itoya stands out for its upscale atmosphere and carefully curated selection.

Its flagship store in Ginza has thirteen floors worth of goods to discover. The third floor with fountain pens and every other kind of pen you can think of, seems to be one of the most popular. On the second floor they also offer a wonderful selection of greeting cards and postcards—perfect for sending a note home to loved ones. They also have an entire wall dedicated to washi tape—my favorite section. You'll find a wide variety of colors and patterns, from traditional Japanese designs to playful prints like tiny loaves of bread.

Be sure to check out the main floor as well, which features a rotating selection or event each month. In March 2025, they showcased Iwako Erasers—the popular food- and animal-shaped erasers—and offered a make-your-own bento box experience. Regardless of what you’re looking for, Itoya has a wide selection of high quality products. It’s absolute heaven for stationery lovers.

Keep in mind that while there’s an escalator to go up, the only way down is by elevator or stairs—and the elevator can be quite slow due to the amount of people.

The ground floor features something new every month. March 2025 featured an “Iwako Eraser Buffet” where you could make your own mini eraser bento box.
The 2nd floor has a large wall of washi tape; a personal favorite.
