Muji Ginza Bakery:

Affordable and Delicious Pastries in Tokyo’s Shopping District

Freshly baked pastries from Muji Bakery in Ginza

You might know Muji for its minimalist home goods—but that’s just the beginning. They’ve also expanded into the world of food with their own bakery and café, and somehow, they’ve perfected that too.

It’s worth noting that the bakery is only available at Muji’s Ginza flagship. While I usually prefer other locations like Sunshine City—for fewer floors and fewer crowds—I still find myself stopping by Ginza now and then for a fresh pastry or a loaf of bread for breakfast. It’s also a great stop for a snack between shops—reasonably priced, consistently delicious, and well worth the money, especially in an area like Ginza where snacks can get pretty pricey. Even if I don’t plan to shop at Muji, the location is central and always feels like a convenient break.

Their bakery offers a variety of sweet and savory options, from chocolate-covered croissants to curry pan. You’ll also find treats that blend Japanese and Western flavors, like the an-butter croissant—a playful twist on the classic an-butter sando (a sandwich with sweet red bean paste and butter).

There’s also a small standing area off to the side where you can enjoy your snack. Since it’s not considered good manners to walk around the store while eating, this little space makes it easy to take a quiet break before heading back out into the crowds.

If you’re in the mood for something light, I recommend the shio-pan, a staple in Japanese bakeries. It’s simple but delicious, with a salty, buttery flavor that always hits the spot. If you catch one fresh out of the oven, it’s a must-grab—just look for the “just baked” signs. There’s really nothing better than a warm pastry straight from the tray.
